For our last day in Agadir we all really wanted to try to fit as much as we could in, and since we slept in yesterday we weren’t able to go see some of the city’s other sights. So on Sunday, we all got up and out the door at 10, then had a quick breakfast of smoothies and croissants, and then we were on our way to the taxi stand once again.
At the taxi stand we were able to nab a ride out to the Kasbah (an historical fortress-shaped building where local leaders used to live, many Moroccan cities feature a Kasbah). In 1960 there was a massive 5.8 magnitude earthquake which leveled almost all of Agadir including the Kasbah. What was left of the Kasbah was mostly rubble and two walls which you can still walk along.
While most of the Kasbah was rubble and there wasn’t much left to see of the historical fortress, from the top of the walls the view was spectacular.
At least to me it was. Horizons are by far my favorite, and the coastline at Agadir was amazing.
After we saw all we could of the Kasbah, we got a taxi back to the Marina where we went to a beach restaurant that sold beach chairs (50 MAD for however long you wanted it) and sangria (would not recommend). We tanned for the remaining 3-4 hours we had. The lounge chairs were behind a roped off area as well so we were all saved from the usual harassment.
We got a nice (albiet, expensive for Morocco and incredibly slow) lunch at the restaurant.
Then we taxied our way back to the airport, got on a plane and went back to Rabat. Overall, an absolutely amazing weekend in Agadir and my all time favorite of all the weekend trips I have done so far.
As always, stay tuned for more posts about my other trips and a travel guide for Agadir!
